Common questions about these results

Are these live investor returns?

No. These are the latest model NAV results from the published backtest. A recent date alone does not make a result an independently observed live record. Investor costs, taxes and execution can differ.

Why can a strategy lag for a year?

A tactical model can hold defensive assets during a rally or change positions during reversals. A short window can differ substantially from its full history. Compare cumulative returns over matching dates and inspect drawdowns as well.

How long has it spent below a previous high?

Its last high-water mark was 2026-01-29, 9 months before 2026-10-23, and it is -7.71% below that level now. The longest run below a previous high in the full backtest was 8.8 years. Recovering from a drawdown can take years, and a strong trailing return does not mean a past high has been regained.

Where can I check the signals behind these results?

The Signals tab on this page lists each dated model decision for the selected variant; for Pro strategies they are visible to Pro members. The methodology page explains the backtest assumptions.

Renevier's Adaptive Hedge — Tactical Asset Allocation Strategy

Stéphane Renevier's Adaptive Hedge is a defensive sleeve for a stock-heavy portfolio. It starts from a simple observation: no single hedge works in every crisis. Long Treasuries gained 34% in 2008 and lost 31% in 2022. Recessions favour bonds, inflation shocks favour commodities, and financial stress favours the dollar or gold. So instead of owning every hedge all the time, the strategy owns the two that the current regime is rewarding.

Six hedges each cover a different shock: long Treasuries (TLT), broad commodities (PDBC), gold (GLDM), the US dollar (UUP), the Swiss franc (FXF) and a short S&P 500 position (SH). Each month they are ranked by the average of their 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12-month returns. The top two are held at 50% each, but only while at least 3 of their 5 lookback returns are positive; a slot that fails sits in T-bills. A hedge already held keeps its place while it still ranks in the top three, which roughly halves trading without changing the crash protection.
