BestFolio — Terms of Service

1. Introduction and Acceptance

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of BestFolio (the “Service”), a web-based tactical asset allocation analysis platform operated by BestFolio (“BestFolio”, “we”, “us”, or “our”).

By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not access or use the Service. You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service.

2. Service Description

BestFolio is an informational and educational platform that provides:

  • Analysis of tactical asset allocation strategies based on published academic and practitioner research
  • Portfolio construction tools for self-directed investors
  • Historical backtesting data and performance metrics
  • Strategy signal tracking and monitoring

2.1 What BestFolio Is

BestFolio is a research and analysis tool. It aggregates, implements, and presents tactical asset allocation strategies that have been described in publicly available academic papers, books, and practitioner research. The Service is designed for self-directed investors who make their own investment decisions.

2.2 What BestFolio Is NOT

BestFolio is NOT any of the following:

  • A registered investment adviser, broker-dealer, or financial institution
  • A provider of personalized investment advice, financial planning, or portfolio management
  • A fiduciary with respect to any user
  • A provider of tax, legal, or accounting advice
  • A provider of recommendations to buy, sell, or hold any specific security

3. Important Financial Disclaimers

3.1 No Investment Advice

The content provided through the Service is for informational and educational purposes only and does not constitute investment advice, financial advice, trading advice, or any other sort of advice. You should not treat any of the Service's content as such.

BestFolio does not recommend that any particular security, portfolio of securities, transaction, or investment strategy is suitable for any specific person. The Service does not make personalized recommendations.

3.2 Past Performance

Past performance is not indicative of future results. Hypothetical or simulated performance results have inherent limitations. Unlike actual trading records, simulated results do not represent actual trading.

3.3 Backtesting Limitations

All backtested performance shown on BestFolio is hypothetical and subject to significant limitations, including but not limited to:

  • Backtests do not account for all real-world trading costs, slippage, or market impact
  • Backtests may suffer from survivorship bias, look-ahead bias, or data-mining bias
  • Historical data may contain errors or omissions
  • Market conditions that existed during the backtest period may not recur
  • Strategy performance may degrade over time as strategies become more widely known

3.4 Investment Risk

All investments involve risk, including the possible loss of principal. You could lose some or all of your invested capital. The strategies presented on BestFolio may involve leverage, concentrated positions, or frequent trading, which can amplify both gains and losses.

3.5 Third-Party Data

BestFolio relies on data from third-party sources. While we endeavour to use reliable sources, we do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any data.

Third-party data (including prices, index and economic data) is provided for your own use within the Service. You may not redistribute it, or use it to build a database or a competing service. Some providers require their credit to be kept on any permitted use; for OECD data the credit must be passed on to anyone you share it with. The sources and the credits they require are listed under Data Sources in our Methodology.

This product uses the FRED® API but is not endorsed or certified by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. By using BestFolio, you agree to be bound by the FRED® API Terms of Use.

3.6 Your Responsibility

You are solely responsible for your own investment decisions. You should consult with a qualified financial professional before making any investment decisions.

4. Subscription and Billing

4.1 Subscription Plans

BestFolio offers a Monthly Plan and an Annual Plan. The standard prices are:

  • Monthly Plan: USD $29.00 per month, or EUR 35.00 per month
  • Annual Plan: USD $299.00 per year, or EUR 350.00 per year

The price of your subscription is the price shown on the checkout page when you subscribe. It can be lower than the standard price for the same plan and currency, before any applicable tax, and it is never higher.

Free Pro trial: We may offer some Free accounts a 14-day Pro trial. It needs no payment details and starts only when you choose to start it. Each account can have one trial. During the trial you have the features of the Monthly Plan, except API and MCP access and the Book. The trial ends automatically after 14 days: nothing is charged, Pro-only features lock again, and everything you created is kept. You can subscribe at any time, during or after the trial, at the price shown to you at checkout.

USD prices exclude sales tax; EUR prices include VAT. Renewals are billed at the price of your subscription. We may change prices, including the price of an existing subscription; if we do, we will give you reasonable notice before the change applies to a renewal, and you can cancel before it does.

4.2 Payment Processing

All billing and payment processing for BestFolio is handled by Stripe. This means:

  • Stripe handles all payment processing and sales tax/VAT calculation.
  • Your payment information is collected and stored exclusively by Stripe. BestFolio never receives, processes, or stores your payment information.
  • Stripe's terms of service and privacy policy apply to payment transactions. You can review them at stripe.com/legal and stripe.com/privacy.

Invoices. We issue an electronic invoice for every payment, and a cancellation or corrective invoice for every refund, through szamlazz.hu, the Hungarian invoicing service. By subscribing you agree to receive your invoices electronically. Every invoice can be downloaded at any time from Settings > Invoices in your account; we may also send it to you by email.

4.3 Billing Cycle

  • Monthly subscriptions are billed on the same date each month.
  • Annual subscriptions are billed on the same date each year.
  • Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing cycle unless you cancel.

4.4 Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings or by contacting us. Upon cancellation:

  • Your subscription will remain active until the end of the current billing period.
  • You will not be charged for subsequent billing periods.
  • Refunds for unused service are governed by section 4.5 and applicable statutory rights.

4.5 Refund Policy

Refund requests are processed in accordance with applicable consumer protection laws. If you believe you are entitled to a refund, please contact us at [email protected] and we will process your request promptly.

Purchases from 2026-10-08T00:00:00Z: Every new paid subscription comes with a 14-day money-back guarantee. If BestFolio is not right for you, tell us within 14 days of your first payment and we refund that payment in full, with no reason needed and no fee. The guarantee applies to every customer in every country, businesses included. It adds to your statutory rights, including the 14-day consumer withdrawal right where it applies, and never limits them.

To use the guarantee, press the withdraw button at bestfolio.app/withdraw or in the Subscription section of Settings, or email [email protected], within 14 days of your first payment. The window is the same as the statutory withdrawal period described below, including its move to the next working day. We refund your original payment method within 14 days of your request, with no fee and no deduction. Pro access ends when the refund is made.

Refunds under the money-back guarantee are always in full, with no deduction.

The guarantee covers the first payment of each new subscription. Renewals do not receive or restart it. Any applicable statutory withdrawal or termination right and mandatory conformity, billing-error, unauthorized-payment or other statutory remedies remain available.

Purchases from 2026-09-15T00:00:00Z until 2026-10-08T00:00:00Z: There is no voluntary 30-day change-of-mind guarantee. The applicable statutory 14-day consumer withdrawal or termination right is the only general change-of-mind right.

For initial purchases before the cutover, monthly plans have a full refund within 30 days and annual plans have a pro-rated refund within 30 days.

The voluntary 30-day promise covers only the initial pre-cutover purchase through its existing deadline. Renewals are excluded and do not restart that deadline. Mandatory conformity, billing-error, unauthorized-payment and other statutory remedies remain available.

A proportionate service deduction is allowed only after a separate express request for immediate performance, the required information and durable evidence; otherwise no deduction applies.

Ending the voluntary guarantee does not limit your statutory rights, including the 14-day withdrawal right where it applies.

Online withdrawal. You can also exercise your right of withdrawal online at bestfolio.app/withdraw. Sign in with the account you bought with: while a purchase is inside its withdrawal period, that page and the Subscription section of Settings show a "Withdraw from contract here" (elállás a szerződéstől) button for it. If you use this online feature, we will send you an acknowledgement of receipt of the withdrawal on a durable medium (by email), including its content and the date and time of its submission, without undue delay. The statement is filled in from your account (your name, the plan and the date you bought it, and your email address), and you can change any of it before you send it with “Confirm withdrawal” (elállás megerősítése). Only the signed-in account that bought the plan can send it, so a visitor who is not signed in is asked to sign in first at bestfolio.app/withdraw. You can still withdraw by email instead, as the refund policy describes.

4.6 The Book

Tactical Asset Allocation for Beginners (the “Book”) is a digital publication by Laurent, founder of BestFolio, sold by BestFolio as a one-time purchase. It consists of a PDF, seven spreadsheet workbooks, the source code of the Book’s tests and a cheat sheet, delivered as downloads from your BestFolio account.

  • Price. The price is shown on bestfolio.app/book before you buy, in US dollars or euros. Euro prices include VAT; for dollar prices, any applicable tax is added at checkout. The launch price applies to purchases completed by 23 October 2026, 23:59 Budapest time.
  • Licence. You receive a personal, non-transferable licence to download, read, print and use the Book and its workbooks for your own investing. You may not resell, share or publish the files or substantial parts of them. Each copy of the PDF is marked with the buyer’s name and email. The source code is licensed separately, under the terms in its README.
  • Delivery and withdrawal. The Book is delivered immediately after payment. If you are a consumer in the European Union, you have a statutory right to withdraw from a distance contract within 14 days. Before paying, you are asked to consent expressly to immediate delivery and to acknowledge that you lose that right once delivery has begun; the purchase cannot be completed without that consent. This does not affect your rights if the Book is defective or not as described.
  • Included with Pro. An annual Pro subscription includes the Book from the first successful payment. A monthly Pro subscription includes the Book once two full consecutive paid months have passed and the third monthly payment has succeeded; failed payments do not count, and neither do free Pro trials or other trial periods. Lifetime members are included. Once included, the Book is yours to keep, even if you later cancel Pro.
  • Reader credit. If you buy the Book and have never paid for a BestFolio subscription, you receive a personal, single-use code worth the price you paid for the Book (up to USD 39 or EUR 39), valid for 90 days against your first annual Pro subscription. It cannot be combined with other offers, exchanged for cash or transferred, and it is cancelled if the Book purchase is refunded.
  • Not investment advice. The Book is educational content. Section 3 of these Terms applies to it in full.

5. Account Registration and Security

5.1 Account Creation

To use the Service, you must create an account by providing accurate and complete information. You must be at least 18 years of age.

5.2 Account Security

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account.

5.3 One Account Per User

Each subscription is for a single individual user. You may not share your account credentials or allow others to access the Service through your account.

6. Intellectual Property

6.1 Service Content

The Service, including its design, features, code, text, graphics, and user interface, is owned by BestFolio and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

6.2 Strategy Implementations

The strategies presented on BestFolio are our independent implementations and interpretations of allocation methodologies described in publicly available academic papers, books, and practitioner research. We credit the original authors and researchers whose published work forms the basis of these strategies.

BestFolio is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of the original strategy authors or their organizations. Our implementations may differ from the authors' own proprietary versions or current recommendations. Strategy names used on the platform are descriptive references to the underlying methodology and do not imply any commercial relationship with the original authors.

6.3 Content Takedown Policy

We respect intellectual property rights. If you are the original author of a strategy implemented on BestFolio and believe that our implementation infringes on your rights, please contact us at [email protected] with the following information:

  • Identification of the strategy or content you believe infringes your rights
  • Evidence of your ownership or authorship
  • A description of the specific concern
  • Your contact information

We will review all takedown requests promptly and in good faith. If we determine that a modification or removal is warranted, we will take appropriate action within a reasonable timeframe.

6.4 User License

Subject to these Terms and your active subscription, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service for your personal, non-commercial investment research purposes.

6.5 Restrictions

You may not:

  • Copy, redistribute, or publish any content from the Service without prior written consent
  • Use the Service to create a competing product or service
  • Scrape, crawl, or use automated means to access the Service
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service
  • Resell or sublicense access to the Service

Communications

By creating an account, you agree to receive transactional communications from BestFolio related to your account and the Service, including but not limited to: signal change notifications, security alerts, billing confirmations, and service updates. These communications are necessary for the operation of the Service and cannot be opted out of while maintaining an active account.

During registration, you may optionally consent to receive marketing communications from BestFolio, including: new strategy announcements, product updates, educational content, and promotional offers. You may withdraw this consent at any time through your account settings or by clicking the unsubscribe link in any marketing email. We will never share your email address with third parties for marketing purposes.

BestFolio will only send communications from bestfolio.app, we will never contact you from any other domain or on behalf of any other company.

7. Limitation of Liability

7.1 No Liability for Investment Losses

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, BESTFOLIO, ITS OWNER, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, AND AFFILIATES SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INVESTMENT LOSSES, TRADING LOSSES, OR FINANCIAL DAMAGES OF ANY KIND ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

7.2 General Limitation

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall BestFolio's total aggregate liability to you exceed the amount you have paid to BestFolio in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.

7.3 Exclusion of Certain Damages

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, BestFolio shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages.

7.4 No Warranty

The Service is provided “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.

7.5 EU Consumer Rights

Nothing in these Terms shall limit or exclude any liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law, including applicable EU consumer protection laws.

8. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless BestFolio, its owner, and its agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses arising from or related to your use of the Service, your investment decisions, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third party's rights.

9. Service Availability and Modifications

We strive to maintain continuous availability of the Service but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the Service at any time.

10. Termination

10.1 Termination by You

You may terminate your account at any time by cancelling your subscription and contacting us to request account deletion.

10.2 Termination by Us

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice, including if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms.

10.3 Effect of Termination

Upon termination, your right to access the Service ceases immediately (or at the end of your current billing period, if you cancelled). Provisions that by their nature should survive termination shall survive, including Sections 3, 6, 7, 8, and 11.

11. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

11.1 Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Hungary.

11.2 Jurisdiction

Any disputes arising from or related to these Terms or the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Budapest, Hungary.

This does not apply to you as a consumer. You keep the right to bring proceedings before the courts of the country where you live, and we may bring proceedings against you only there.

11.3 Complaints and Consumer Dispute Resolution

If something is wrong, contact us first at [email protected]. We answer a written complaint in writing within 30 days, and we give our reasons if we reject it.

If our answer does not settle it, you can ask a conciliation board to help, free of charge. You need to have tried to settle the dispute with us directly first. BestFolio's seat is in Budapest, so the board with jurisdiction is the Budapesti Békéltető Testület at 1016 Budapest, Krisztina krt. 99. III. em. 310, postal address 1253 Budapest, Pf. 10, telephone 06 1 488 2131, [email protected]. You may instead apply to the conciliation board for your own place of residence.

We are required to cooperate with conciliation board proceedings. None of this affects your right to take a dispute to court.

12. General Provisions

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and BestFolio regarding the Service. If any provision is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect. Our failure to enforce any right or provision shall not constitute a waiver.

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or through the Service. Your continued use of the Service after such notification constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
